WHAT ARE HANDS-ON ADJUSTMENTS?

The hands-on adjustments are an art. The art of ‘manipulating’ the postures of yoga practitioners -by using highly skilled hands-on techniques- to help them achieve the following:

  • Correct aesthetic alignment
  • Deepen a particular posture, which otherwise they may not be able to do on their own due to:
    • Tight muscles
    • Tight connective tissues (i.e. fascia)
    • Scar tissue
    • Nervous system (mechanisms of protection / mental barriers)
    • Create new muscle memories to explore broader ranges of movement and flexibility.
    • Unlearn any unwanted/unhealthy pattern of movement and establishing new ones by retraining the nervous system.
    • Experience postures in ways they may have never felt before.
    • Reduce the chances of injuries by teaching them to feel the appropriate alignment of the postures.
    • Enhance their body awareness.

COURSE CONTENT

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is the most popular style of yoga asana practice in the world. This module is based on the postures of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series and offers the most practical hands-on adjustments techniques for the majority of the postures of the Series. Since these asanas are common to other styles of yoga, everyone who takes this course will greatly benefit, irrespective of the style of yoga you practice or teach.

The Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series includes standing, seated, supine and inverted postures. It covers forward folds, backbends, twists and balancing postures. This makes it a very comprehensive and complete inventory of yoga postures. By learning the hands-on adjustments techniques for these postures, you will learn almost everything about hands-on adjustments you will ever need to adjust simple to intermediate poses. (Other modules will cover more advanced and complex postures)

The hands-on adjustments theory is a very vast subject; therefore, you will have a good amount of time to study and practice the skills explained in the course.
